Design Process, Evaluation

Design Process Evaluation

This brief was about researching into folding techniques and thinking about how we personally design. I really liked the idea of this brief because of it’s practicality. I think it is good to think about how the whole design process and by making the outcome have to make sense to the content. This brief has helped me a lot to think about how I design, what I like about my process and what I don’t like. It has also helped me understand how important what we create at the end of it makes sense to the whole design.

I have learned quite a lot about my personal design process. I chose to make this brief very personal so I could better myself. After first year I wasn’t happy how I worked. I didn’t try hard enough and was quite a lazy designer and student. This brief has highlighted all the problems I had and shown me how I can change.
Finding the fold that I used was really helpful because it made it a lot easier to show the two different years and two different design processes.  This has shown me that the way you present your final design should be really considered, so it makes it easier to communicate your idea.

If I was to do this brief again, I would of listened to myself a bit more. I’ve wasted some time designing digitally what I could and should of done by hand. One of the main things I want to do this year is work by hand a lot more. For me last year, I used digital design too much and only because it was quicker way of working. After designing it and printing the whole I decided to do it by hand. I really prefer because it communicates the content a lot more. However I should of just done it straight away, and experimented further with that.

Although my design is all about how I want to work this year, with information on how to be a more organised student I still didn’t stick to it as much as I should. I say that I want to blog everyday rather than saving it for a big session, but I still did all my blogging in one day. I think some things in the way I work cant be changed, however I am going to try. Staying in the studio has proved to be really helpful; it less distracting and I do get work done.  For a one week brief, this has taught me a lot about myself and how I should work. The work I have produced is decent and I’m happy with it.

If this brief was for wider audience I would not have made it so personal and made it more general to design process problems, that others suffer from. I also would make it digitally so you can print it. However because this was a one-week brief on your personal design process I’m glad I went for a personal approach.
