Digital Print Workshop, 2

RGB and CMYK in photoshop
Default mode is RGB
Print mode CMYK

Gamut warning, shows you what colours are outside the CMYK range and will print differently to what you see on screen

Adjust the colours with the Warning on so you can see what colours have come through and you know how it will look when it prints

You can see the image changes a little, the colours dull a little to show you the CMYK

Saving swatch palettes help you keep the same colours in your work

Saving it in the Exchange format means the colours can be saved for Illustrator or InDesign

Add colours by using the Colour Picker

Spot colours

You can apply these spot colours to work
Here you have to think about what ink is being used when printing
Monotone is only using one ink but it can go to using 4 inks

It saves the spot colour name so the professional printer knows exactly what to use

This is using 4 inks

Using curves you can more ink in the dark areas than the lighter

Channels

Channels show what colours are in the image
Different for RGB and Grayscale

You can put colour onto an image with a spot channel

You can change the solidity of the ink, that represents the transparency of the ink
